Hello everyone, I have my shubunkin already for months and still very active and eats a lot. The soon I have got him i started to grow a sort of a tumor on the two sides of his head. How to treat him or is it a tumor? The other fish are ok. Thank you for your help.

I’ve had two of my shubunkins get very lumpy with tumors - no clue why. One died when one of the “tumors” (which was apparently more of a fluid filled sac) ruptured. The other is still swimming happily in my pond. No clue if there is anything you can do about it or if it’s strictly an issue with this breed of fish.

Welcome to the forum Annick. Not much to do if is a tumor. Some folks have a vet operate if possible if a valuable fish. The symmetry of the growth (and looks like it has a double tail?) makes me wonder if it has some oranda genes and is getting some head growth, which would be normal for that type of fish.

Hello and welcome!

The first thing I thought of was that it looks like a wen. I’m basing that on 2 observations. One is that the “growth“ is the same color and pattern as the fish. Two is that it looks like you have fancy goldfish, and that little guy might be a fancy rather than a Shubunkin (I see fan tails). There is a type of goldfish that normally has growths on top of the head.
