Hi

Does anybody have any suggestion for the best way to create a shelf/platform in a pond to create a false bottom. There will be a pump/filter at the bottom of the pond, I want to create a false floor above this to cover with pebbles/cobbles. I first thought marine ply but this is not designed to be permanently underwater. Next thought is tough galvanised mesh panel(s) which will be sturdy enough to support the weight of the stones. The pond is approx 6 foot by 4 foot at widest points.

If anyone has done this before or can offer any advice it would be most appreciated.

Many thanks.

Terry

Use pvc, make a frame, get some heavy duty egg crate plastic, like what goes over florescent lights, but tougher. Small grid, use that to put on the pvc frame. I made one like this for the bottom of my filter, still going strong and a bunch of rocks on it. If the grate is bigger than the rocks you want to use, cover the grate with nylon screen (window / door) glue or zip tie it on

Holes or sand in the pvc so it does not want to float.

we used pvc pipe and a piece of plexiglass attached to it with plastic ties. i smoothed the edge of the plastic with a blowtorch to smooth it and prevent fish wounds. you could also use a hair dryer or paint heat gun. you don't need to put rocks on the plexiglass. algae will cover it and it will disappear.

i'm actually considering the same thing with a sheet of 1/2" black polyethelene plastic raised up on 10" legs in the 4' x 6' oval range plants on the top and a good amount of space for my guys to duck in for cover, or shade.
