Hi Im about to start a buried stock tank pond. I live in the hudson valley and would love to have this in my garden but it would be in full sun. Any tips? will it get to hot?

The larger and the deeper the more water you have the less the amount of issues surface when in full sun. Minimal feeding and fish . but i take it your stock tank pond is better known as a preform plastic pond

Welcome to our forum!

With a small pond you might want to put a shade sale over it.

@Jerasong
We've had conversations here about galvanized stock tanks and I think the major consensus is that they could be harmful to the fish. Not everyone agrees tho. http://blog.zipgrow.com/worried-that-a-galvanized-tank-might-kill-your-fish

its proven in laboratories that galvanized, Zinc, led are not good for you particularly led yet All the major east coast cities have miles of led pipe and fittings.

Hello! For a stock tank, you might want to consider shade with just a little bit of sun. it will heat up quickly. For a galvanized stock tank....yes, opinions vary, but it never hurts to play it safe by adding a liner.

Galvanized is pretty toxic (it's the zinc coating that is the problem), but you could line it with a fish-safe liner without much trouble. Despite what sources say about it being safe for plants (but not fish), we have some old galvanized sheet metal that the prior land owner used to hold back soil when forming the landscape and we can't plant anything within 2 feet of it or it just dies. Nasty stuff.
