I have a fantail that has spawned once that I know of. That was 2 or 3 weeks ago and she is still huge.
She is starting to drift. I was thinking about putting some sort of divider in for a while. I have so deer fence material that I thought might do it and still circulate. Any ideas?

Also...Ive really enjoyed reading about the koi breeding. My koi (2) 7" were eaten last fall by a Great Blue Heron and I haven't had heart to replace ...yet.

Hi,

So very sorry about your fish. I live in the Northern Neck and worry about the Great Blues and kingfishers. Do you think that the time of year might have had anything to do with the incident? I am not knowledgeable about the feeding/breeding habits of those birds, but that thought did enter my mind... I know I would be heartbroken if I lost one of mine, expecially to a hungry bird.

As to the divider, I would be a bit concerned about the deer fence material because you don't know with what it is coated. My husband suggested fiberglass screen which is available at almost any hardware store. Hope that helps. My thought was the plastic crossstitch material that is available just about anywhere.

Good luck and happy mommydom!

She moved away from the skimmer and ate this eve so maybe she will reabsorb the eggs or something.
I rolled up some deerfence and was prepared to move her into the upper pond if she was in there. I decided to air the
Fence to allow chemical dissipation if there is any.
I do think there is something to the timing on the heron. I plan to cover
It when I quit feeding or soonet if i see those buggers.

Many here have used the deer fencing in or around their ponds. Hope your fish gets better :)
