There is a mixed opinion on that, some disagree with keeping salt in the pond except for treatment purposes, others like to keep a stable .1% solution in the pond year round raising to as high as .5% during treatment of ulcers and sores. the best way to measure salt is a salt meter. You can buy one from ebay that runs about $25 and it works great. I bought one and really glad I did. takes the guess work out and is pretty accurate.

I think I purchased one after you told me about the one on Ebay. So if I remember my math correctly then 1% would equal to 10,000 PPM. If this is correct how do you read it on your meter. Mine just goes up to .9999 PPM.

If you bought the meter I bought I take mine to .1ppm, that's about 1/4 cup per 100 gallons. .9999 would be extremely high salt dosage. This seemed like the correct dosage when I saw checking mine.
