From time to time someone is concerned about roots harming a liner. This 30 or 45 mil EPDM pond liner was in for 8 years and this is what I found when I removed the liner. The root in the first image is from a tree. The second has roots from weeds.

I am not saying roots can't damage liners but I have yet to see proof.

EPDM is a good liner choice because it can stretch if needed.

I have only had roots grow over the edge of the liner down into the water, phoneix pond, hot dry desert trees searching for water.

Howard, The Only time I have ever seen roots damage a line was some La. Iris that grew over the edge of a old 20 mil pvc liner. The liner became so brittle that it simply crushed it in pieces and the water started seeping through the roots. I was using a float style refill so it took a pretty long time to figure out I even had a leak. Never had a single root damage a EDPM liner.
