hello all

I have been gifted a small wooden pond from a friend photo attached, sometime ago I put it together to see how it looked but left it standing and it has since filled with rain water. I put the pond up around the start of September so most the water on it had been still got quite a while. I want to properly set it up next year and add some plants and fish. Ideally I don’t want to empty the pond just to refill it unless absolutely necessary. Would the addition of plants, filter and some water movement (small waterfall) be sufficient to get the water to the right quality?

Hello and welcome!

Yes to your questions, but more importantly if you plan to add fish, you will want to also use a water test kit (liquid, dropper tests are more reliable than strips).

How many gallons is it? If not many than only add a few fish. Plants and filter and movement are good. Do you only plan on rain water forever? If you put in city water ever you will need to find out if chlorine or chloromines are added. If so you will need to add drops to eliminate them.
