question on filteration help please?

hi just bought a hozelock easy clear 9000 all in 1 submersible to replace my hozelock cascade 1500 ,i am using the easy clear as a prefilter (pump) before it reaches my green genie gravity filter box at the top of my waterfall is this a bright idea as i dont want to run 2 pumps will this work well thanks?
