My pump has been in the pond and running the the biofilter for about 2 weeks now, I recently added 2 KOI and 2 shub's According to the pond calculators i have 1,175 gallons. I am running a 1000 GPH pump with a 30 Gal biofilter I have one bag full of shipping strap and one full of air brake hosing from semi trucks that i got for free (work at a diesel shop) There is also a furnace filter in there ( The reusable type) The water has started to get a little cloudy and there is some algae on the liner now, I am more worried about the cloudiness, it has been very hot here (93+) every day and the pond gets at least 4 hours of sunlight a day, it seemed to cloud up a little more when i started adding plants i put 3 bundles of Water Hyacinth, 1 Lillie that is a bundle currently and 1 Iris that is a bundle (both from Lowes) I am also running a fountain feature that aerates the water by splashing, I just wondered if this was normal for right now. I know that every pond has to go through the start-up process but wanted to make sure i was ok.

Thanks guys i know its a lot of reading but i always appreciate your help.

Are your bags fitting tight against the sides of your filter ?
That would keep incoming water from slipping around unfiltered
Two weeks is not enough time to get the bacteria going good so things could get better
What kind of filter do you have ?

I agree, that is why I don't use bags, all my water has to pass through the media. A bacterial bloom (cloudy water) is normal and will go away suddenly when the Bio kicks in. Your pond was not growing much of anything until the fish were added. Their waste , in part, is what gets it started.

I agree with the docs i started my first filter with media bags...just looking at the way they sit you can see there will be channeling of the water between the bags, after a few days i lost the bags!!!

so If I am using fencing - (I haven't invested in the strapping) - I already have some fencing. Do I just throw it in there (not in a bag) I haven't added the bio suff yet. I am just using the matala mats.

I have a bio filter Up-flow with the swirler in the bottom and a bottom drain in it. I will have to take the media out of the bags and i will get a roll of irrigation tubing tomorrow and add more media since i have plenty of room left.

AS USUAL THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE HELP!!
