I have a submersible filter right now and I really hate cleaning it so for my next pond I would much rather use something like this:

The delimma for me is and I'm sure this is an easy answer but if I house my pump in the back of the filter, what apparatus do I use to collect the dirty water at the bottom of the pond that won't suck up the fish or add another filter to it?

I have my pump in the water and my hose goes up to the filter .I just put the protective cover on my pump and leave the filter part out .I have not had problems yet and hope to not have any .I do not spend much money on pumps so if they go out not such a big deal plus I bought my pumps at harbor freight for 22 dollars and paid extra 5 dollars for extended warranty .my last pump cost 22 and is 1268gph
