when i built my pond i made my floor depth in 3 levels, shallow end is 18" deep then in the middle it is 24" deep and at the deep end under the water fall it is 1 metre deep, now to make it easier for me to reach the pump when i need to clean the filter etc i placed the pump in the shallow end, i have placed a flat slate stone on top of 4 rocks to make a platform for my pump to sit on, is this the best idea or should the pump sit right down on the pond floor ??

my pump sits on an upper ledge that is under my waterfall 12" to15" deep but i have a couple prefilters plumbed off 1&1/4" hose down in the deeper areas. they scan be moved around the pond at my covenience to draw water and debris from diferent areas of the pond. that said.. your most efficient draw is from the deeper areas due to the tendency for the majority of the organics settle there.

the i take to my pump has a hose fitting attachment i could use that and split the hose with a t fitting so my pump takes in from both the deep end and the shallow end, if it is taking in from the deep end only right below the waterfall i am concered there wont be enough water flow round the shallow end

your waterfall ideally should fall into the shallows and its force and gravity pushes the debris into the deep end(s). where your pump and /or prefilter can suck it up!! prefilters are good as they catch debris before the pumps impellor purees it. tho they need cleaning.

but too late for a re-design now ime afraid, but think putting a dual intake on the pump is a good idea

yes pump has a pre-filter on, and i can make pre-filters to go on the end of the intake pipes

well i have now adapted a dual intake onto the pump so it pulls water from both the deep end and the shallow end, i used 2 plastic balls ( the type you get on floating ball valves) cut lots of slotts and holes in them to go over the ends of the pipe, so the fish cannot get too close,

Good idea, is your pump as far away from the filter as it can be? This is usually what we advise :(

pump on the left side of my pond goes into right filter pump on the right side goes into left filter and I have each pump raised 3 inches off bottom and inside of crate to make it easy for me to pull pump out and hose it off .I had cloudy water after heavy rains and temps went up to 75 degrees then went back to 30 degrees water cleared up now heavy rains coming again

@howtopondsandfish yes my pump is at the opposite end of the pond from the filter, i have bow built in a home made venturi system from the filter that pumps oxyger down to the bottom of the deep end,
