Hi all Newby here, I have a 20k litre pond and am fitting a pump and filter system. Are there any disadvantages to having the pump location in the pond v a dry mount system?

I put mine in the pond as I leave it running all year long. We don't get a lot of freeze. If you have an external pump and your weather gets really cold it could freeze the pump perhaps? If not then it's your choice. You don't have to haul the external one out to clean out anything. I have to on my internal one as it is hooked to a pre-filter and that gets clogged up now and then. Takes a long time for it to clog w/muck tho. If you set a pre-filter or pump w/o filter on a shelf and not on the bottom it shouldn't clog up or at least not as much.

I am in the process of building my pond and went with an external pump. The externals cost more upfront but they last longer and the electricity cost is less. You also have a fairly large pond volume so you may need the power of an external. But some people like the ease of the submersible and being able to hide it. All depends on what is important to you.

Sequence pump, priming pot, check valve. Low wattage, high head, high volume flow, Balder motors.
