Pondless Waterfall Rocks Are Black?

Hi everyone. I'm on my 2nd full season after my dual stream pondless waterfall build. I wonder if someone could recommend a product that would eliminate whatever is turning all the rocks that are in the path of the water, black? I already use Muck Defense and Clarity Max.

Last year I shut the falls down, sprayed a sodium percarbonate and water mixture, then was able to use a garden hose to spray most of the black off of the rocks. I tried yesterday to do the same, with minimal results. It would seem that I now will have to go back and manually scrub off all the larger boulders, but again, hoping to find a product that will just prevent the black from forming in the first place.

Thanks,
Marc

You know the routine pictures help tremendously.

But muratic acid will do the trick and it should be fine against the liner but give it try on some scrap liner. This acid is what masons use every day to clean up there work of mortar and grout. In high concentrations it eats faster and easier. But kills anything it comes in contact with . In diluted amounts it will take longer to clean and require more elbow grease. And won't kill everything heck it could just be the rock that absorbed the most water. Yes rocks can absorb or HOLD water. Does it look like the rock to the left of my waterfall that rock is actualy light gray but add water and it's pretty dark. No stopping it , why would you want to let the moss grow

I'll take a picture first chance, but nah, not like the rock in your picture, definitely a black yucky buildup. I figure it was perhaps just leftover crud from decomposed leaves, etc.

Are you saying to apply the muriatic acid directly to the rocks, or just pour it into the basin?

And again, is there a way to prevent the buildup to begin with, or just something I'll have to scrub off a couple times a season?
