I just got a rebate on water charges, it was really easy one 10 min call and it should save me £400 a year.

I just received my Anglian water bill and the cost for 6 months had gone up over £350, I was expecting the bill to go up, but wasn't sure by how much. Reading the bill I realised it was a double whammy, not only does the charge for the water goes up but they also put up the sewage charge roughly by the same amount. Of course using the pond the water is not going into the sewage system.

So looking on the website I found I could get a rebate and future reduction, so one 10 min call, they could see my water usage had doubled, they asked a few questions about the pond, I also mentioned we do have a large garden that gets water. They said they will give me 70% reduction the sewage charge for the current bill and on going bill, in essence removing the sewage charge for the pond completely and covering charges garden water usage.

So i am well pleased :D

We have a similar opportunity here in the US but it requires using the meters that the village installs on your outside water and of course they charge an exorbitant price to install the same thing that we could do ourselves for $200.

In Connecticut THEY ARE FRIKIN CROOKS , oH we see you used more water when you filled your pond three times 12000 EACH FILL. but we don't offer any discounts it's an average.......... HORSE SHIP........ THUS THE ADDITION OF THE 3000 GALLON CISTERN IN YEAR 3 i think it was.

I'm now working on BUYING MY OWN SOLAR PANNELS AND KEEPING ALL THE POWER FOR MY GREEDY SELF. AS I COULD NOT GENERATE MORE THAN I USE IN THE SUMMER. Paying some company for am easement on my roof my driveway is BACKWARDS they should pay you..... ITS A FRIKIN SCAM.. i f they ever have to take the panels off the roof its a good 5 grand and another to reinstall. this will cut your saving in half over a 20 year average. i don't know about you im not willing to let anyone on my yard who may twist an ankle or fall from my roof for a 5000 dollar savings over 20 years , and thats if they don't have inflationary costs which they all do........ look what you did you got me started

Update:

I received the confirmation email today: it's completely different figures from what I was told before, a 70% reduction on sewage service charge which will be on going, I thought that's good, so I ask for it to be repeated to check, yes 70% reduction on going.

The email today I will have to pay 82% of the sewage service charge for 12 months before it goes back up to the standard 90%, which apparently it was before. A massive difference between the email and what was clarified on the phone.

At least I now have access to my water meter readings, I can see water usage has gone up around 400 - 500 litres a day as I had expected

I not sure how it works for others, but when I remodelled my house, I had solar put on the roof, I paid for it all, so all electric I get from it is mine, although I don't have batteries so any excess goes back to the grid and I get paid per kilowatt, there are no other charges

id expect your pond to loose like 40 gallons a day evaporation, leaving 100 gallons to the rdf waste water. I' wonder if the rdf is even needed now in the winter. anyway to bypass the drum? that alone would cut way back on water usage. the wetland can easily provide filtering for the winter

That could be about right, although I'm surprised at how much water the rdf is using, at the moment because the water is clear it does not fire often, less than once an hour, so it should be using a lot less water.

I can run turn it off for a bit, within the rdf there are two bungs I can remove which will allow water to pass through it without going through the mesh screen.

Now that I can see my house meter readings I can be a little more analytical and compare the water usage of different elements to see I can track down where the water is being used/lost
