hi folks
my question is can i put the drainage hose from the pond vac with the silt filter on it below the water line of filter bins so that the fresh water feeds directly back into the filtration system or should the nozzle be above the water line
I don't really want to drain the silted up water into the main drains as its a huge pond to have refill.

i would also like to know what causes small bubbles and organic matter floating on the surface.
Are the koi and gold fish breeding
are the bio filters not working
does the surface need skimming more
is it worth worrying about

cheers

I regret buying my pond vac to be honest. It sucks in smaller fish real easy and I have to keep an eye out on the drain hose to see what fish is coming out of the other side. If you use a smaller inlet you wont such much of the bigger debris or it will get stuck. If you got rocks at the bottom of the pond then you'll have to watch out fo rocks blocking your inlet pipe.

But yes you can put the water back into the pond.

If you have small fish, you better take them out before doing that. I'd even take out any fish under 6 inches, goldies are dumb as stone sometimes and the fancy ones are slow to run away. Giant Koi wont care.

Bubbles are supposed to be the result of dissolved organic material. Dissolved organic material is a lot of things... surface coat of fish, proteins dissolved from dead critters or dead fish, semen/excrement of fish. To answer your second question we need to know pond volume, fish content, frequency of water changes if any, and filtration system.

@andy young when my fish and toads were spawning, I had some foam (or small bubbles) on the pond surface. The foam cleared up by noon. Did your bubbles go away?
