Question to all you experts.. Can I use a 5500 GPH pump in a 2000 Gallon pond? I want to run it to a small waterfall...
Any help would be appreciated..
You can hook it up to a firetruck if you so choose
Its always better to have a bigger pump than you need, you can always put a valve on it and dial the flow back if you think the waterfall has too much water, or is too loud.
Well Thank You. Wasn't sure and that one is pretty much all they had in stock here.. So I will buy it.. Not sure I know how to put the valve on to dial it back but if needed, can I send you a pic of it and you can tell me where it goes? Or what to buy? I have been pretty lucky.. Haven't lost a fish in a couple of years and the Herons can't even find them.. I think my trees grew over it and a bridge helped..
Well, what size and kind of tubing are you using to bring water from the pump up to the top of the waterfall? Its just going to be a normal plumbing valve more than likely, something you would find at menards or home depot.
its also a good idea to not just restrict the water flow but divert it. what you dont use in the falls. have just circulate in the pond for water movement, or to supply a spitter etc... a simple t before the valve should suffice. the water will naturally want to flow staight thru the "T"...the more the ball valve restricts the flow the more that will be diverted out the "T:" before it... a second valve can be installed on the diverted flow line as well. heres a sloppy drawing to show what i mean...
I use the cros one on mine and have water that goes to 2 different filters and one that i put another valve on that puts the water back into the pond remember t or cross fitting the hose has to fit over it and you need clamps to hold it on .I actually get a piece of pvc pipe that will fit inside the cross T and glue it in place but if you push it in hard it will stay in too .I cut the pipe the length need to go inside the hose and into the T fitting and then clamp with a clamp .if you ask in plumbing supply they can guide you step by step and get you the pieces you need .
