Welcome to the Garden Pond Forums Stevie!

Now onto the pump.. it is just dead? Is it submersible is it outside the pond? I assume you just want to replace it and get your waterfall and filter going again. Let us know what kind and what model it is. Is the filter a commercially bought filter? If so what kind is that. What is the diameter of tube or pipe that feeds the filter?

Its a submersible pump and yes need to buy a new one but just have no idea, i have koi in the pond and am worried not having the pump on especially now with it being extremely cold, the pond had a sheet of ice on it this morning, the fish may die. Yes i bought the filter, did not inherit that, it is Hozelock 9000, the pipe is 1 1/2inch od. Thank you for your quick responce

Actually the fact that it is cold out will slow their metabolism down, they can't digest food as fast when the water temperature is low. Don't feed koi (much/at all???) unless the water warms up cause their digestive system doesn't work when it's this cold out. Someone else here would know better when to feed them I have never had koi. I guess they would still produce some ammonia from their gills by breathing and thus necessitate some kind of filtration but that is nowhere near what comes from waste.

You still need to get oxygen into the pond by keeping an open hole in the ice with a pond heater / de-icer.

I'd call Hozelock tell them the volume of your pond and which of their filter you have, see if they have a recommendation for pump. From their site "For UK customer service , spares, help and advice, please call : +44 (0) 121 313 1122 "

don't feed your fish if it is below 50 degrees F, with the ice it sounds like you are already there.
