Greetings from Montana!
It's looking more like Fall up here...Spring came real late and our vegitable garden did very poor... So we're getting ready for the winter already, which brings up a pond plant question..
I bought a few pond plants at Lowe's this past June... Like every other piece of vegitation around here, they didn't do well either...
They sprouted some green, but if there were any roots generated they didn't make it out of the netting material they were housed in...
Some of these plants were suppose to be submerged in water from 12" to 24"... The rest in 1" to 6" of water... Since they didn't root, I am wondering what to do with them... The water on the ponds will freeze down to 18" ... Is it okay for these pods to freeze solid?
I still have the cartons that they came in and while it states that they are okay for the "zone" that we live in, it doesn't really say anything about how to care for them in the winter...
Any thoughts?
TIA
Chuck

What kind of pond plants? Most of the time if you put them in the deepest part of the pond they will survive. I have heard 3 feet deep

I just got a few lilies (around 10) from someone getting rid of excess, potted them, when we get cold I will push the pots into deeper water. The parrot feather will just do its own thing.

The rest are in the bog, they will freeze, but the guy I got them from said just let them freeze they will come back next year. He is only 1/2 hour from me so we have the same temperatures.

You could bring them in for the winter maybe baby them to give more roots for next spring.

Hi Chuck, winter already ? So soon ? Say it isn't so .... I hate the thought of snow and ice. I drop all my plants to the bottom of the 3 foot side. The fish like to hide in them in the winter also. They do very well, haven't lost one yet. When I start to see new growth in the Spring, I bring them back up to the shelf.
