Hello - I'm reposting a question one year on! Still not sorted so re-request !!!

10 year old outdoor, 1750 litre pond with a sheet pond liner (LDPE?). Brick edged - bricks have been laid onto a bed of mortar.

I fill the pond with water to just touch the bottom edge of the bricks. Within 12 hours the level has dropped by 2" (50mm).

I've filled it up, turned off pumps / fountains etc - so no movement - let it drop, then tried to find any damage........no luck! Hence my request here!

I'm tempted to mask off the brickwork with tape - then find a really thick black paint to daub all way round the top 3" - any suggestions?

Or......

Mask off again - then fill the gap / area where the mortar is between liner & brick with "some sort of gobbo" - black, waterproof, fish friendly, filler - like a waterproof paste / filler? something that can be pushed into cracks / crevices but wont slump out...in effect black mortar - using a spatula?

Any ideas?

Yours hopefully

Stuart

Is it only dropping the 2" with everything off? If so then there is where the leak is. They are hard to find. I would let it dry a little a d then check at water level. I had to pull my liner to find mine.

Actually it dropped overnight by 4-5 " ..........I may repeat & actually measure it and guess.
The only thing running is a pump which is (only just) breaking the water surface - just to get some air into it :)

How big is the pond? Is the top of the liner folded/creased anywhere? The first couple inches of loss could be from wicking. You'll need to let the water level drop until it has stabilized for 1/2 day or so to find the leak. If it's warm/windy, you can also use a 5 gallon bucket placed in the pond, filled to water level to measure evaporation as that will be a variable in locating the leak as well.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!
LEAK FOUND - a small hole in liner 4" beneath row of bricks.
So now "the repair"........a patch of sticky back tape or buy a kit - any recommendations?
MANY THANKS
