What kind of filter are you looking for? There are a lot of options, but maybe not many for $20. You might be able to make one for around that, using a bucket and some PVC pipe. You can search this forum for ideas.

Hello
How big is your pond and what and how many fish do you have.
Those pre filters clog up rather quickly.
You might end up cleaning the thing every day.

40 gallons, and I am just doing 24 minnows, but more to add, low maintenance guys as they are going in/out constantly.

Thing is if you already have a pump you can put it in a flower pot and put lava rock around it .I use that method for years on my ponds in the winter

@thepondperson I'm not sure that particular filter will work with your pump -- it's a pre-filter that's made to fit on the intake part of the pump and the pump you showed isn't designed the same way. See picture.

A pre-filter is to protect the pump from dirty water that gets sucked into it. It's a good thing to have because it protects the pump, but I don't think think the one you showed is going to work with the pump you showed.

Do you want a filter that CLEANS THE WATER? Then, what @Ruben Miranda suggested is a good choice, but might take up a lot of room in your 40 gal tub.

Again, please be more specific and tell us what you are wanting to do. You keep asking for us to link you to things, but we can't do that unles we know what your purpose is.

I am using it to filter water simply before entering the pump to prevent water and keep the water clean of algae.

I see, and that's what it's for. But I still don't know if it will fit your type of pump -- there's no place to attach it. All you can do is give it a try and see. Be sure to check it and clean it often. Uneaten food, fish poop, and other debris will clog a small filter up pretty fast, as I think someone else has mentioned.

A pre-filter won't prevent algae, but your fish will do fine with the algae.

I think a 793GPH pump in a 40 gallon pond is way too much pump, even if you meant 400 gallons it would be too much pump. I once put a 160 GPH pump in a 70 gallon aquarium and it was way too much and your 10 times bigger ( 5 times the pump in half the water).
A powerhead or a 80 GPH pump would be a better fit for a 40 gallon pond. I've got some really cool filters that are all in one, it has the pump that is around 80 GPH, a bag of ceramic bio-media, course and fine filter foam, in a box with a venturi aerator, and a ring of LED lights, and I got it for the price your looking to spend on just the filter; so I'd suggest you keep looking around. The big-box home improv stores are likely to have ponding stuff on sale now that summer is over.
