Just looking for some advice on how deep I would need to have my pond for Eastern Canadian winters. I would like to have fish and was going to make it 5' deep, but just making shure that is deep enough (shure hope so, I will be digging this sucker out with a shovel lol!)

I think your frost line is around 50" so you should be fine going 5' deep. Some of our Canadian ponders may have a better idea though.

Well you could make it 6' and that way if it kills you w/ all that digging then they can just cover you up and it will be legal burial depth :goodnight:

Well I guess they need more women like that in this world and there would be hopefully less problems than there are now .Shame the world is in a stew pot right now ..Beewrangler going to make his pond deep enough and wide enough to keep the crazy women away ..

could be beewrangler and since you will need a drawbridge to get in and out ,you will have to figure out how to build one .Just no alligators in there ,Have to admit it would be one interesting pond to have .

Beewrangler, The densest water is 38 degrees and will form a bubble of water at the bottom. Usually 4.5 ft to 5 ft deep is sufficient. Also the whole pond doesn't have to be that deep, just an area big enough for the fish to settle into. Also you need to find away to keep a hole in the ice. I use an airstone and it provides an added benefit of adding O2 to the water which is needed if it gets covered with snow.
