Call your local auto shop and ask if they carry spill kits. if not Grainger or Colony hardware opps your in the uk there's got to be a industrial / comercial hardware store near you again ask for a spill kit. The one thing you don't want is your skimmer on and mixing the two together. But like the skimmer if you take a bucket and just let the edge of the bucket slip below the surface it should pull the surface contaminated water where the slick is being seen. the spill kits have what we call diapers that only absorb petroleum products in water and not the water. A diaper is nothing more than a thick rag that only absorbs chemicals

Might take some clean very rinsed off cloth of any sort or burlap and lay on top of water to soak up anything floating. Got to make it so the cloth won't sink somehow tho. Maybe lay on something that floats like pool tubes etc. Can you actually see a slick? If not it may be ok that you just changed the water out somewhat.
Hoping all will be ok.

If it is just a bit of overspray, then a simple partial water change like you preformed is the way to go, but if there is a visible slick on the surface of the water then you may want to look into further action.
