I have a few in my build. Medium/heavy duty pallets would be every bit as strong as aquablox, I think. The typical light duty ones would be fine for a distributed load of gravel but cannot take the point load of a boulder.

I used them on top of crates I purchased from a local nursery. I zip tied the crates together with hundred pound zip ties. I cut the pallets in half making the grated surface not so thick. I put the cut pallets on top of the crates to distribute the load more evenly and by cutting them down reduced their thickness.

All this above a 10" plastic culvert with slits cut on the top and graded towards my clean out barrel.

I am looking to use something like the Benchmaster 96" x 24" Black Plastic Grid Top Platform Panel (650 pounds support) to create voids in my bogs instead of pallets. I like the idea of a clear void vs the aquablock style of a grid of support. I might just be creating more work, but a clear void under the gravel seems better for cleanout. I have not seen a lot of documentation on others using the approach, so while I don't like being bleeding edge, it does seem cleaner to me. I have not done it yet, so just theory right now. Still planning my new bog areas.
