Just built a new small wooden raised pond (1.1x0.7x0.7m) in the very limited space left in my garden. I don't have any fish yet, but plan to get some comets once established. The problem I have is plants! As it's quite deep but not at all wide, it's hard to find the right plants without loosing too much space. Was thinking of floating planting baskets and a Pygmaea helvola. Any ideas would be appreciated...

My garden is south facing, but has a big Oak tree outside of my fence, so it's hard to work out. Most of the sun where the pond is would be partial and at around 3pm it would be direct for about 3 hours.

Nice pond! I would suggest fan tails, they stay small and are neat to watch. I have them in my hot tub pond. It is around 300 gallons.

Here are a few of mine

What is a hot tub pond? Is it just a converted hot tub that you don’t use anymore?
Our hot tub broke, i.e. the pump etc. So we got a new one, hubby said lets make a pond. So we had them put it on the back deck area (ground) Filled it with water, plants, lilies, fan tail gold fish and it is doing excellent. Around 300 gallons or so. I had to net it, the heron took the first fan tails I had in it.

This is a picture from last year.

Just an update on the pond. Thanks for all the advise everyone. I ended up building a couple of corners and used landscape fabric to make them into "floating" pots. Filled them with aquatic soil and planted a Japanese Clements Iris, Corkscrew Rush, Orange Peel Plant, Rough Horsetail, Water Spearmint and a couple of Double Flowering Arrowheads. In the pond I got a Pygmaea Rubra water lily, which has only been in for a few days but is doing so well it's reached the surface! Also got some Sarasa Comets to finish it off. Really happy with it now...:D
