Osmocote or Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat?

Hi,

Now that I have your attention, until Addy mentioned planting medium Osmocote, I‘d never heard of it. And, the posts on kitty litter developing a fetid smell made my nose reflexively crinkle.

How often would I need to replace the kitty litter?

When I looked at Osmocote online:

1. It appears to be a fertilizer not a planting medium. Do you use it in place of kitty litter Or add it to kitty litter? Quantity?

2. There are so many Osmocotes at Walmart.com. Which one should I choose?

Ok, Osmocote is a time release fertilizer. I use 1 1/2 scoops in the bottom of my lily pots and then fill with the litter. I reply mine every 2-3 years. After the 1st year I use Pondtabs to fertilize then. They are tablets of fertilizer you push into the pot. If you have a lot of fish, you may not need to fertilize! I use the flower one for my lilies.

I put in around 1/4 of a cup, just sort of toss in, once a year, Under the kitty litter. Yeah it smells eventually but no biggy the lilies love the litter and osmocote
