I live in north/central Georgia and its time to do a treatment of Microblift. Should I do one last application, or is it time to start on a springtime maintenance? Temperature is above 60 degrees. There is a good bit of algae on the bottom growing on the rocks.

Thanks!

Why would it help? Just asking......

Maybe it wouldn't. But if I don't do something on a regular basis, I'm overrun with string algae. It gets so thick & long on the waterfall coming down the hill; it slows the circulation. We had a week or so of warmer temps about 2 or 3 weeks ago and the algae was kicking off, hanging off the rocks and the ledge, growing in the pond at the bottom. Then the temps went back down, which they are going to do this Tuesday again, and it killed most of it. Anyways, just trying to decide if there is anything I can do to stay a little bit ahead of it. I will always have it though with this pond, looks like.

Wish I could get away with that. :)

I dont want to tell you how to run your pond, that's for sure. One thing I do wonder though, even with my own pond, is why do I have this algae? With a proper balance of stocking level, feeding appropriately, plants, and good mechanical and biological filtration, it should be possible to not have to use algaecides. I was starting to get some green water last year after my fish spawned and doubled the population in my pond. I removed about 25 fish and the problem went away.

I also have a lot of string algae and I can tell you its not because of over population I only have 4 gold fish in a 1000 gal pond. It's sometimes worse then others. I would recommend shutting down your pump sprinkling the algaecide all over the waterfall and waiting for 30-60 minutes. Its works for me all the time. Kills it all off. You can then try your best to rinse it off without getting it into the pond. Obviously some will end up but wit my setup I can hose it off to the sides.
I am starting up my pond this weekend and I can see all the green algae floating at the surface even after I skim it off every couple days. The water looks clean and I can see to the bottom. This is my first yr actually opening my pond after I closed it so we will see how it goes. I also have been using the fall winter microlift maintenance packets since November. I'm hoping once everything starts to flow again it will looks better
