On and off deicer

First of all Happy New Year to everyone on this Forum. I have a new 200 watt deicer and would like to know if I can turn it on and off depending on the weather conditions. Is this bad for the fish should I leave it on 24/7. Thank you RDK

The unit should have a built in thermostat that only turns on when the water temperature reaches 35 degrees, and shuts off at 45 degrees. If you want to go by air temperature they sell this thing, http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=5507

Yes it does has a thermostat. Then I should just run it and forget about it. Thank you.
