I went to a health food store yesterday. All of the "oils" they had were for stuff like aroma-therapy. Is that the right stuff to use for fish?

The store attendent and I googled and searched for about 15 minutes to check all of their products....

I got some anyway. I made sure there were no other ingredients listed, just 100% pure essential oil, made from flower buds, organic (if that really matters....).

Not going to use it until you guys give the official OK.

If it says oil of cloves then you shouldnt have a problem with it in amethatising your fish , I think it works out to be 10 ml per two gallons of water to put them under .

Thanks Dave 54 for the information you shared on the link.
I have never used Clove oil for fish anesthetization, it will be helpful to me.

Think nothing of it Demi I only hope this will give you and others the confidence to put a fish under enabling you to treat them as there are some treatments of fish that require this Anchor worm is one parasite we need to sedate fish for , damaged scales tail etc other reasons as well as minor operations last but no least to painlessly put our fish to sleep if need be .
You'll find this a very useful tool to use , you may even wish to use another MS222 which we use

Thankfully I didn't need to use it for my most recent fish-issue, which apparently resolved itself.

I'm just glad to know there is a method of "calming" [I like that word better....] a fish with the use of the clove oil.

@Dave 54 I didn't go back and read the above referenced post [I know, I know.....], so please tell me, does it address if there is anything different with the dosing for goldfish, and differences to compensate for the size of the fish in general? My medical training is coming into play here.

Since I have goldfish, which are obviously much smaller than koi [;)], my biggest concern about having to DO ANYTHING to them is that they ARE so small. There's no way I would be able to hold onto a little GF and be able to administer medical care with it wiggling around and trying to get away from me. I would be more afraid I would cause MORE harm than any good my treatment would bring.

Just getting a scraping stresses ME out -- next time I do anything, I'll probably have to pour a glass of wine -- Oil of Clove for the fishy, and Wine for the mommy!:ROFLMAO:

@Dave 54 (and anyone else) I just thought of this.......

Would it be "ethical" to practice using the clove oil on one of my fish?

My thought is that it's going to be stressful enough if I have to anesthetize a sick or injured fish, and that it would be best if my FIRST time was under a controlled situation.

Thoughts.....?
