Just in planning stages for my first pond. It will be 5 X 10 X 3 with a 20' stream and waterfall. I've read several post about construction and planning but I'm having a delima with pump placement. I'm torn between placing submersible pump in bottom of pond or in skimmer??? Any suggestions?
Pump is: Laguna MaxFlo 1500 with 1 1/4" flex hose attached.
Filter: Biofilter (55 gal barrel - DIY)

You would want your pump in the bottom of the pond, if you do not have a bottom drain. That is where the yuck is going to settle.

your pond is going to be around 1100 gallons the pump is good for 1500 gallons.

A lot of pond people have submersible pumps that work well in getting rid of yuck from the pond.

Thanks for the advice. I was torn because my yard has several large oaks so it's all but impossible to locate it where there's not a tree! I have a plan to build a cover for the fall when leaves fall so that shouldn't be too big of a problem. Thanks again for the advice....awesome forum!!
