Koi you have to remember are more work need more filtration and more oxygen and can get large fast .My koi almost 8 years ago were only a couple of inches long and are now over 2 feet long .I have 2 filters going and 2 waterfalls and 1 large aerator going .They put out a lot of waste and I have to net some of the waste out from the bottom so it does not go bad there .I net the bottom of the pond 2 and 3 times a week to keep it clean .I have fancy tails butterfly and regular koi plus a couple of goldfish and 1 shubunkin

im probably only going to get 2-4 koi since we will be upgrading our pond soon so its much larger and fish friendly. im realy concerned about getting the koi i want, ive been looking all over the internet and forums for colour specific ki utsuri and hi utsuri koi but they are hard to find for sale (excpecialy the ki utsuri i love so much)

when the ponds shape will be very simple, a rectangle, and ill be puting in oxiginating plants as well. i usualy have lots of time on my hands so at least i know ill have some cleaning to do one or twice a week haha

my pond is a rectangle and the one problem I had was the corner folds ,it was hard to make them lay flat .I wanter a rectangle so I could put a bridge I built across the center to shade the pond a little .

koi can cost a lot and to start you may want to try cheaper fish until you your sure you have the pond working right .I have seen where they spend a couple of hundred dollars on a koi and it died 2 days after because the pond was not ready for fish .I have also rescued some fish from abandoned ponds .

I just sold some koi I rescued to a koi supplier and I got over 200 and for some and just got 500 hundred each for 2 more of them .I was not going to sell them but the pond at the other house is full of babes also .I guess there were some that spawned .
