Keep would love some feedback regarding things I could do to improve design/performance and if this could provide a good habitat for 3 or so Koi.

The pond itself is made from a hot tub shell. It holds a little over 300 gallons of water. I am planning to use the pump that the hot tub used which is a swimming pool pump that is designed for continuous use. I am using a mini-me skippy jr. filter and dropping the water over some rock falls that I would guess (rock falls not assembled yet) will be about 36 inch. of drop from the top to the pond. The diagram should help illustrate the design. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

The picture looks like the design will work, the only thing that worries me is the size of the pump. You would probably save operation money in buying a pond pump. I'd check the gph and the watt useage on that pump.

I have reported this post in the Newbie to Garden Ponds Forum with a much better quality picture of the diagram. Before I fully implement this I would love to hear as much feedback as possible to help me do this right and get the kind of results I am hoping for. My 4 year old daughter is really looking forward to getting a few Koi in the pond and I want to make sure that they have everything right before I get them. Thanks for your input.

the one way valve before the pump wouldnt be necessary if the pump is below water line.. and would create undo stress on the pump. a submeresable pump in the bottom of the pond would suffice and no doubt be cheaper to run. but the big thing to me would be the color of the pond... if its blue or white or whatever .. hows it gonna look with alge and sediment covering it? a nice sturdy outdoor trash can (plastic) would make a nice filter like a 32 gallon BRUTE, or even a 20gal.
