Hi People,
I am thinking of increasing the size of my pond from a 1200litre fibre glass pond to a
8-10ft L x 6ft W x 3.6ft D Maximum 2.350 UK Gallons - 6130 ltrs ( I will more than likely build an 8ft x 6ft x 4ft (3.6ftwaterline) so the volume will be slightly less

My main question is: What size timbers would i need for the construction.
The build will be on a slight slope, with the length going across the slope, so i will be fitting a bottom drain in one of the lower corners,
Any Help would be much appreciated,

Thanks in advance

Mark firstly my son your English we use Imperial gallons and I just hate having to dig out the conversion charts so Speak English my man not French
We ourselves have a free standing Welded Plastic koi pond 1,000 gallons imperial 4.5 ft depth 7ft diameter 21 ft Circumference with a 4-2" frame covered with decking .
one thing I wold say to you is think aboput insulation before the build and add it as you go .
Our own pond is wrapped in 22mm polystyreene sheets then silver sided bubble wrap then as a finish we used recycled plastic Loft insulation wrapped around all of that .
Both the pond and filters have 2 by 4 wooden frames and are covered in decking the filter housing is also insulated with 22 mm polystyreene sheeting and has a Policarbonate roofing sheet lid , the pond itself can be covered in Policarbonate roofing sheets throughout the winter allowing the pond to settle at a temperature of 7c even at -10 to -15c
You really need to look quite carefully at the placing of your bottom drains , I was lucky it was placed central with a gentle slope to the centre of the pond thus all food works its way down the slight slope and into the bottom drain then on to the 32" votrtex filter .
There are two other vortex style filters and a barrel filter the 2nd and 3rd filters have Jap matting , Lythaqua etc + 3 aistones to each of those filters with 6 in the barrel filter which is full of k1, bio balls etc, supplied by an Airtec 40e anopther supplies the spindrifter on the bottom drain cover .
The pump is an Oase 3500 and the UV-Cis a 36 watt double bulbed UVC made by Aqua pond , the pond and filters were originally the large QT ponds of Hananumi koi Yeovil so weve had a problem to retrofit it into the space we have avialable to use but with a little tinkering we got it to work perfectly fist time around .
The entire setup costing £600.00 plus the hire of a Van which we got back when we sold our koi's original indoor home for exactly £600.00.
