Hello everyone!
I just installed a 120 gal goldfish pond in my backyard last weekend. I have a water pump and waterfall filter installed and they are working fine. the pond was filling with water, and while i was backfilling around the liner, i accidentally dropped some very dense clay in the water, not much but maybe a cup or two. The water is very cloudy with the color of the clay and the walls of the liner are very slimy. There is some clay settled on the bottom. Should i just leave this alone and the pond take care of it self, or should i drain it and start over?

It won't bother the fish, but the water may stay murky when they stir it up. For that size of pond I would put in fan tails, they stay small and are neat to watch. I have them in my 300 gallon hot tub pond.

Hello and welcome!

If you haven’t already added fish, you can change out the water. As @addy1 said, though it’s not going to harm the fish, it’s just unsightly. Run your water through several layers of polyester quilt batting and that will help.

I'm on my third round of batting and it's no better. If it will EVER stop raining here, i may go ahead and drain and refill. You guys are great. Thanks so much for being here and taking the time to help!

At least you can drain and refill. I have about a 16,000 gallon lined pond with tons of clay from runoff and it is hardly ever not stirred up. I have given up on ever seeing the bottom!
