For this reason iry to talk people out of these preformed things. They are not easy to set but there is a way you want to work it as one section at a time You want to over size the excavation so you can back Fill aproprietly.
Starting with the bottom. For that sand or a dry layer of mortar. And by dry I mean no water what so ever. Twist the unit back and forth setting it to the desired height. Once established play sand usually the white gradually will flow best. Start back filling and COMPACTING as you go as you get some of it set and your comfortable start adding some water this will finish compacting the sand and the moisture will find its way to the dry mortar, again while compacting keep working your way up. SO MUCH HARDER AND MORECOMPLICATED THAN IS LINEr.

More than just level while that is critical , what's more so is supporting under the shelves/ horizontal as sooner or latter you will step in and most preforms are unable to support the weight expecialy if it's a bit of a drop and the heel makes the impact . They crack so easily

I got rid of all my preforms, over time cracked, heaved, finally tossed.

I've had a 75 gallon with lotus in it for years. Hubby was pulling weeds and stepped in it. Will be replacing it later this summer with a stock tank
