Yes, I'm not big into the home made food stuff (heck I don't even like to make stuff for myself let alone cook for the fish
) but it is nice to be able to add what ever ingredients you want or need. I suppose I could add stuff to this food if I wanted to as it's just a dry powder. It would be really easy to make a medicated food with this by adding antibiotic powder. What I really like about this is that it is easy to make and the fish seem to enjoy it. I found it while I was on the Dandy Orandas website (they specialize in high quality fancy goldfish) drooling over the fish up for auction (which if I ever have the room and the money I would love to have a few of his fish) anyway this is the food that he feeds all of his fish. I figured why not give it a try?
I used to buy the Mazuri gel food which is similar but got away from using it for some reason.
The problem with antibiotics added to food Maria is the fish it is intended for often dont get the lions share so that method though we o have used it in the past adding baytil to pellets by use of measuring out four day ,meals to so many ml baytril by use of a zip lock bag carefully massaged until all the pellets are have soak it up .
So it is somewhat hit and miss method of doing things .
We now prefare to inject our koi should the need arise, there are two ways of doing this , there is the Intra muscular injection usually administerd into the pectoral muscle located at the back of the pectoral fin it is normally refared to as an IM injection .there are two other sites but we dont use them as it would mean running the needle underneath the scales .
The other which is the Intra-Peritoneal which is far more dangerous and involves injetion the fish in the peritoneal space or body cavity located behind the pelvic fins but before the vent and anal fin are reached the danger comes if the the location of the injection site is wrong , serious and potentially fatal damage can occure to internal organs , this form of injection is known as an IP injection (we dont use this method but if we have too then a koi health Specialist or Vet is called in to do it).
Both methods should only be used as a last resort when all else fails.
The koi has to be sedated and weighed so that the correct doseage can be given to them after the injection it is best to use either malachite or propolis can the be applied to the injection site .
