I have 2 filter systems. One an Oase 10 bio-filter with a Little Giant water fall pump. The LG pump has 2 out hoses. One 1" ( might be 1 1/4 ") to the filter and a second 2" hose for the waterfall. There is nothing at the end of the 2" hose as a lot of water comes out and flows over a piece of flat stone for a great waterfall on the upper part of my pond. This upper section falls guides the water to two additional waterfalls before falling into a 2,000 gallon pond.
The upper level has gravel the water runs across. However, a lot of waste gets caught in the gravel and accumulates in a couple of areas as it does not run through a filter system . I don't know why. I thought that the 2" hose was moving more water than what goes through the filter and thus all the waste getting distributed in the gravel in the top of the pond.
I thought adding a second filter system with it's own pump would clean up the water enough so that the first ( waterfalls) pump would be moving cleaner water and thus not distributing more waste through the gravel on the upper level. It is a Laguna exterior filter/pump system. The out flow hose sends to little water to use for the falls.
That didn't work. The first filter system/pump is for a 2,500 gallon pond and my second filter system is for a pond a little less than 2,000 gallons. I intend to get rid of a lot of gold fish as I did last spring ( I have a total of about 15 small ones) and keep my 3 big Koi.
So here's where I would appreciate some help. If I turn off the waterfall pump Oase filter for long periods
would that make a difference? Or do I need to run the 2" hose into a waterfall like a Tetra waterfall filter which I'd like to avoid because I think it would restrict the strong waterfall I now have. Could I add a valve to the end of the 2" hose so that water runs only to the filter system if i turn the valve. That I think would send too much water through the filter system. Am I right?
Any suggestions are most welcomed.
