Was "shopping" at our only local aquatic plant center last week, and saw these plants [bought them, BTW].. The lady there said the one was parrot's feather - but doesn't look like other parrot's feather I have -- she said it was in it's "infant stage." OK. She had no clue what the other one was, or how to grow it. All of these were in pots, thickly matted together -- pots were sunk at water level. I cruised around on some sites that sell aquatic plants and the closest I came for them are "mare's tail" and "baby tears." .

Needless to say, you need to know what you're looking for if you shop there!

Well, I waited too long to edit my post. In the pic that is supposed to be parrot's feather, there is a single parrot's feather peeking out close to the lower right hand corner -- doesn't look anything like what's in the pot, which looks like a bottle brush.

Any ideas on what these are? Are they keepers? How do I plant/care for them?

Float some, plant some, stick some in rocks see which way they grow the best. They are nice looking plants, I would keep them

I even have parrots feather growing in my veggie garden!

The first picture looks like Brooklime (Veronica beccabunga).

I have tried mares tail and when it grows it is a really cool plant, Trying in different locations is probably a good idea to see if you can find a place it feels happy. That's not exactly what mine looked like in either pic so maybe there is more than one type. Or they look different when gown in different conditions.
