this is just an observation, not a criticism...i wouldnt have used the large pipe. it really cuts into the filters capacity. especially because of its size, having to mount it so low on the tank...for instance, its like a 100 gal stocktank only using 40 gals of volume. a couple of 2" pipes would have fit right up near the brim. or better yet a weir.. my filter has a weir and utilizes almost the entire stocktank, up to 2" from the top of the brim.. if thats a 100 gal tank, my 70 gal tank is actually utilizing far more tank volume. essentually making it a bigger filter in a smaller container.

now i am trying to come up with a way to somewhat conceal this huge tank.. im thinkin about building a deck box around it , however keeping it ventilated and wrapping rope around pipe. im thinkin i can make it look kinda cool.

Just an observation, not sure if you had just thrown the food in, but if not, you are over feeding them. Only put in what they will eat with in five minutes or so.

Just an FYI - I don't think there is any need to keep the filter ventilated around the sides, just keep the top open or easily accessible for cleaning and maintenance. My filters are made of 55-gal barrels, buried half way in the ground. During the Summer, you can float hyacinths or water lettuce in the top of the filter to make it look better, and the plant roots will contribute to cleaning the water.
