Hello,

I joined this morning and posted in the intro section.

At the moment i have got a small half-whiskey-barrel, approx 100 litres with 3 x golfish in it.

My filter is the Hozelock Easy Clear 6000, obviously this is overkill for a small barrel.

I have also got a 4' x 3' x 2' container (similar to a koi quarantine tank) that i wish to put my goldfish from the barrel into and add whatever else that i can. This is not yet set up, i only got given it on Saturday.

It is about 680 litres, 150 imperial gallons, 180 US gallons.

What sort of stocking levels would i be looking at? Could i have a couple of Golden Tench and 1 or 2 Koi Carp?

Thanks alot,

Gaz.

koi get to be about 24in long so they wouldn't even be able to turn around. most goldfish get to be about 8-12in. find out how big your goldfish will get then you can know.

most people say you can have 1in of fish for every 10 gal of pond. so you say you have a 180gal pond that's only 18in of fish. you have to plan on the size the fish will be not what they are now. so 3 goldfish at average 10in each 30in of fish your already over stocked. but a lot of that depends on how good your filter is and how often you do water changes. if you keep up on the maintenance you can have more fish.

Thanks for the replys.

At the moment 2 of the Goldfish are about 8" long and quite fat. 1 of them is a little comet about 4" long.

Isnt the 1" per 10 gallon rule a little over the top? 200 gallon pond and i could only have 2 goldfish?

My filter is overkill for the pond, it is suitable for ponds up to 6000 litres, my new pond will be about 600 litres so its 10 x what it needs to be, obviously depending on stocking levels.

Thanks

Yeh they are too big for the barrel according to any calculators etc. They are really happy though, water is crystal clear, they feed well and are very active and appear healthy.

I am upgrading them to the 180 gallon though and thats why im asking what i could add to the 180 gallon with the goldfish.

Thanks

like i said 1in of fish for 10gal is with standard filtering. you could probably double that with that powerful of a filter but still dont add to many. maybe think of smaller fish like minnows they will school and be fun to watch.
