Hello! I’m trying to learn a rough value of my new koi (yes i know it’s hard to give a value based off just photos). I recently bought 2 large Koi fish. One is 22" and is a "Taisho Sanke”. The other Koi is around 18" and is a Goshiki Koi. I don't know how old they are, but my guess is the biggest one is around 10-15 years old, and the smaller one is 6-10 years old.

if this is for resale/rehoming, you're not going to get much. Genetics is the only sure way to recoup any investment in koi as most are more than happy with their mutt fish and aren't going to pay much. If you go to ebay, search for your fish types, hit 'completed auctions', you'll see what similar fish have recently gone for.

For instance; i can get a 10" fish from BKD for about $60, 11" from 70-$90, as a very general rule of thumb with their priciing.

Most people aren't wanting older, larger fish and you'll see the younger (with potential) more colorful versions are more in demand. Again, genetics count more for ROI than anything else.

If you just need to rehome, your best bet is to contact a local koi club.

btw, from your pics, I don't see a tancho sanke; I hardly see a sanke at all as there is hardly any black markings. Tancho is a red spot in the center of the head, surrounded by another color. And koi grow fast from year 2-3 and could easily reach 22", so yours might not be that old, unless you know its history.

Thank you for the info!! I said it was a Taisho Sanke. That is different from Tancho, which is that red dot on the front of its head. It’s just another way to say Sanke really. But there is just a little bit black on it.

I think that the forum called KOIPHEN.com has a topic where you can ask questions like this. They are all about koi.

You said you just got these fish, are you wondering if you overpaid? Unless you have documentation from a japanese breeder, the resale value could be less than what you paid. I have sold koi for anywhere from $5-$250.
