O.K ..i had started the moving process a couple days ago...pulled the media from my outside pond fllter, cleaned it up a bit, and put it in the basement pond filter. and pumped the basement pond about 3/4 full with pond water. when i do this i put the hose into my filter down pipe so it runs thru the filter, just as the water normally would. finished filling the basement pond with tap water. dechlorinated, and ran the filter for a day. this was friday. saturday i caught my 5 big fish and moved them inside.
Sunday had a wedding so .... nuttin' done.
today i finished draining the pond (almost totally) and caught almost all of the fry from this year. 225 to be exact. there are still a few in the pond outside, but not many. i also caught a few tadpoles...

arent you afraid to expose the liner to the elements i would think the sun beating on it would dry it out and give the possibility of cracking ive never drained mine but its only been up for two yrs

I have been doing it for years.... its only a couple days in the "fall" sun. and theres a nice layer of blanket weed on the liner. the pond will be refilled today, tommorrow at latest.

i sell koi so i bring them in..i can feed them, altho lightly. and keep them social & used to people. by spring, most will eat from your hand. customers like that. but the depth of my pond also is the biggest factor. we really need 3' minimum deep here for the big ones. i'm under 30".. any little ones left outside have always made it thru the winter just fine. i left 120 outside last winter..no casualities. thats with no aerator, no pump, no hole in the ice.
