Might have to take a few days off from the forum as next tuesday I'm going into hospital for surgery which will see my surgeon implant electrodes into my lower spine around the L4-L5 area of the spine .
Much to say I'm not looking forwards to this one little bit but I have to have it done to correct a mistake made by a Doctor giving me an epidural some years ago now .
Dependant on how long it takes for me to recover depends on when I'll be back .

Oh boy, If it's not one thing it's another.....I will keep you in my thoughts Dave. How long will you be staying in the hospital? Maybe Val can keep us updated?

Try not to be gone too long, we will miss you!

Hope the doc does a good job and may God guide his hands. Will be wonderful if it corrects your problems and you feel much better soon.

I'm sorry but It appears everyones get well soon wishes may be a little premature here guys ,this morning I took a phone call from the surgeons secretary, it seems that because of my recent heart issues and the need for me to be required to take warfarin because of this is going to exclude me from operation I've waited so darn long to get "I'm totally gutted"
However first things first I need to talk with my General practitioner about this to see where we stand .
If she feels that things are going to be too dangerous to go a head at present then its a no go......" Jesus I feel like an apollo astronaught that has done years of training just to get to this one shot, only to be told that because he has a cold its a no go", I've waited 6 years to get this far undergoing test after test to get here .....
But my surgeon feels that if I go on warfarin then theres a danger of me bleeding into the operation site which we dont want as it could be devastating for me not only that but this was the frst part of a two part operation (to take readings over a two week period), the second part was to come later again warfarin precludes me from it totally

Sometimes, they will wean you off the blood thinners, to do the operation, check the pt ptt, once good enough do it , then put you back on right after.

But only if they think it will not cause issues for your heart or whatever reason a person is on a thinner.

yep, addy is right, whenever we have a patient going in for a procedure and they are on blood thinners they will need to "hold" them for so many days (usually 3-5 days depending what the doctor says and what medication the patient is on) and then have a pt/inr (blood test) checked the same day as the procedure. they then are instructed on when and how to restart the medication. even aspirin needs to be held for so many hours (usually 72 hours)

Yep my hubby too. They told him to take nothing that would thin his blood for a certain amount of time and they then checked his blood to see how well it would clot. Then after surgery they let him go back on his regular routine.

Sorry for you if they can't figure out a way to get this long awaited surgery done for you Dave.

Wishing you the best Dave and hoping that you will end up being able to have the surgery that you have been planning for.
