I am in zone 5 and have had lotus flowers before but can never keep them alive till the next growing season. Ideas on what I can do,where to put them etc would be super great. Thanks Amber

if they are not hardy in our zone put them in a cool spot for the winter...I have large pots I put in the basement under grow lights they stay pretty dormant till about April. If they are hardy enough drop them to the deepest point of your pond preferably like 36" then bring them up in the spring. Trial and error I have lost quite a few and also have lost quite a few tropical lilies.

Have you ever driven down Hornaday Road just East of Brownsburg by the school? There is a pond there half full of Lotus. And they come back every year like crazy. One of these late nights I think me and my shovel may make a midnight trip to "look" at them more closely. LOL

When all the top foliage has fizzled out on the summers lotus, I would have thought covering the lotus tub with bags of leaves would keep the tub from freezing through, assuming its buried in the ground.

If the lotus tub is above ground, it will freeze through in a few hours at 25°f. Not good.

Regards, andy

*** don't mean to hijack the thread *** how long before they grow shoots if they were overwintered at the bottom of the pond? (4'). I moved it to the 2ft shelf.

Mine are just now growing shoots. It has to get a little warmer for yours to grow, I would think
