Howdy. I might need some advice on the health of a lotus plant.

Our weather in Texas is beginning to warm up and my lotus plant is coming out of hibernation. For the most part the plant seems healthy but today I noticed two of the stems appear to have turned brown and failed. This seems to have happened over night as yesterday they seemed fine. As a matter of fact it almost seems as though they were briefly burned with a flame. I did a search in some of of my aquatic plant books but couldn’t really find anything that matches what I’m seeing so I figured I’d post here.

Here are some photos. Should I be worried about this or is this normal with new growth at the beginning of the growing season?

Any fertilizer used? That could burn the new growth.
No fertilizer used. Going to keep monitoring the situation. The supplier I bought them from is currently closed due to Coronavirus. Otherwise I’d ask them about it.
