A few of my lotus leaves were starting to slowly turn yellow so I wrapped some Osmocote Plus Fertlizer in gauze pads and pushed it into the soil. It’s been 5 days since then and a few other leaves are starting to fade yellow around the outside. Any advice or info on what’s going on or what to do? Thank you!

Also, birds still continue to visit the pot to take a bath and punctured a few leaves, so I’ll need to surround it with bird netting since the ribbons don’t work well anymore

Looks pretty healthy to me. Are the newer leaves opening up with yellow edges or does this happen to the old ones. If the old ones that is typical as the leaves age.

The newer ones opened with a lively green but after a week or so I could see a slight yellow fade developing. The more yellow ones have been there for at least 2-3 weeks

Mine seem to go through stages where the leaves get a little yellowed. The hard part for me is just living with them when they get yucky. You probably know this - but don't cut or pull old leaves below the water line. Always cut a few inches above, since water will go into the hollow stems and rot the root. ( This is so weird to me, since lotus is an aquatic plant.). I think yours looks nice! Have you been good and hot in NJ? Mine seem to thrive in the heat of summer.

If you prune the yellowing leaves it will allow the plant more energy to create new growth and your new green leaves.

Yea I try to prune them as close to the leaf as I can, but even then it’s sometimes tricky to keep them above the surface because the wind sometimes blows them back in or they’re just short. It’s been very hot over here. Temperatures have been ranging from mid 80s to high 90s. Thank you, I hope yours is doing well!
