The front yard trees are dropping them like crazy, but the back yard trees are holding on to theirs. So, I'll have leaves (and acorns!) coming down on the pond gradually from now through probably January! Gotta get that netting up!

BTW, these are all oak trees, but I'm guessing several different species, considering their differing habits. Sure would be nice if all of them dropped at once -- get it over with, all at one time instead of dragging it out!

Well, iPad is slow, so only getting one pic up. These are the almost-naked front yard trees. Backyard trees are still green & full!

wow you will have a lot of netting out of leaves unless you get some strong winds that blow them away .

We were doing good with the leaves until yesterday when a major cold front went through and what seemed like a million leaves decided to all fall at once overnight. I even have netting for bird protection over the ponds but now they are sagging from the weight so I'm sure I will have a busy weekend coming up...

Back yard trees....
wow! I haven't seen green trees in probably a month. Got a few leaves left on them but not much anymore. The past week or two has pretty much taken all the leaves off with strong winds and rain, plus snow.

I know! I was surprised at how green everything was, too, even for here!

These trees are weird in that even after the leaves turn, for the most part, they stay on the trees for a while before they fall.

A week or more ago we had a mini-storm and it pretty much blew all the brown leaves off the trees. After reading that first post I guess I should be thankful for it!

oak trees seem to hang on to their leaves longer than any other tree. Most of ours didn't come down till Jan. or Feb. 4 oaks taken down 2 years ago so leaves are not so much of a problem this year. do have some small seed pods coming off what I thing is a gum tree. They go right thru the netting and you don't want to step on them in bare feet!

Yea, guess it's time for some "just-out-of-curiosity" research [our Boy Scout troop's Scout Master is a botanist -- I could just ask him....] to see what these are. I know there are at least 2 different species, and maybe 3. One tree is very pretty -- like something you would plant on purpose. The others are just the kind that grow everywhere, but aren't anything special, and their leaf shapes and tree shapes aren't as pretty [I just did a Cub Scout camp where we taught them about leaves -- they had fun doing leaf rubbings!].

The pretty one is the one that is still in full green cover, and one of the others is still pretty full, though with more brown leaves.

Brrr! It's gotten cold here. I hate to go outside, but I HAVE GOT TO GET THE NETTING OVER THE POND!

Ugh, the leaves here are driving me nuts! since the cold front came in the leaves just seem to be magnetically drawn to the ponds. We have one elm, and one Bartlett pear that are somewhat close to the pond but more than 25-30' from them, yet the skimmer boxes are getting filled every 4-5 hours. Yes, lot of maintenance needed once they all fall. Most of the tress here are either just starting to change colors or are still for the most part still green, But I think after tonight that's all about to change rather quickly, with the first frost and first freeze of the season.

I have a black oak in the back yard that is losing it's leaves now, but the pin oak in front will keep their leaves until spring. Just when I finally get the back cleaned I have to move to the front :)
