Can someone educate me on the different Koi food? I started my pond in late August and the shop I got the fish from gave me some bulk Fall food(No bag with a label..). I notice while doing a search for food online bags are listed as spring and fall, are they the same? I want to get me fish more socially friendly and heard feeding was the best way.

Water temp is supposed to be above 55 steady for regular food .I start them on the fall and spring around 40 degree water temp and add garlic to the food to help them feed better and ward off disease .They say you can start fall and spring at 30 degrees but I usually wait

I bought the fall/spring food for the first time this spring, as I was concerned about the harsh winter and wanted their digestive systems to "wake up" slowly. I believe it is a wheat germ based food , lower in protein. Once it is warmer I'll feed a higher protein food I buy at the fish hatchery which doesn't have a label on it either:)

You can jusyt buy one of those cheap dollar store giant ones for now .I use them still even though I have pond thermometers .I use organic but guessing powdered you could do as long as you dampen food so it sticks to it

Basically you feed them wheatgerm and garlic in late summer/fall then again in the spring. :)
Moving on into the summer months i;e from May onwards you can strart feeding with wheatgerm and garlic plus summer growth feeds .:)
You then can feed various high protien feeds that have special properties "say for colour health and virbance" NTLab's that you can feed your koi during this period readying them for the winter ahead .(y)
Look into feeding your koi freeze dried Silkworm, Mealworm, Shrimp every few feeds during the summer, fresh foods such as Orange Lemon etc are also a welcome treat :)
At the moment I am feeding my own koi with wheat germ and garlic and a mix of both it and a high protien Japanses mix of foods ready to move over for the summer
I hope this helps ;)
