After my koi spawned I found a lot of eggs tangled up in string algae. I put the whole mess in a bucket so they wouldn't be eaten or flushed away.
Now some have hatched. Does the string algae provide appropriate food for them, or is there something specific I should put in the bucket ?
Are they likely to survive without special care ?

They will feed on the algae so don't remove it, however this is only a supplemental food soucre and shouldn't be totally relied on to feed the babies, next best food for newly hatched fry is newly hatched brine shrimp. after about two weeks then you can start feeding powdered foods. Very important to keep the water as clean and stable as possible. Daily or every other day water changes are pretty much needed to maintain water quality. Also remove any fry that are double the size of the smaller babies, these are reffered to as Todies, Toby koi will feed of their smaller siblings, once Koi are about 1" long this is far less likely to take place. once they are about 2" long the should be safe to put back in the pond with the parents.
