I made a fence around one side of my lower pond when my son gave me a granddaughter it works well ...shes 4 now and climes up the rocks to see the fish in my 2ft raised pond we watch her close but it definitely buys you some time , and stops the accidental fall in
I made mine out of copper i dont know what it would cost now, if you searched granddaughter fence it should come up

No kids but I did have a dog that became blind after having diabetes. I had to make a small fence to keep him from going into the pond was especially helpful during the winter when there was snow on the ground. I made it out tree branches to keep it looking natural, it only had to be about 16" high as he was a small dog. I still had to keep an eye on him though.

My daughter was young when we put our first pond in and I have friends who have small children. All of them are fascinated by the fish. I don't let any of them outside alone. If they want to feed the fish, an adult takes them to the side of the pond and helps them. I think supervision is the key to prevent an accident.

Not sure how old your kids are, but I think it is important to explain to them where they can and can't go near the pond, you establish the boundaries. Do your kids play in the street, probably not because you have explained to them why they can't and when they have gone towards the street you have probably held them accountable and told them how dangerous it is. The same thing with the pond, and you just have to keep your eye on them. We have never had any problems when freinds have brought their kids over, you just have to keep your eye on them.
