As I sit pond side and seeing my vertical net keep out the herons. I had a thoughtb. Wouldn't a hair net stop koi from digging into the pots. This will allow 90 percent of all the shoots to get through the net. And wala no more issues with koi digging up the roots.

I also use plastic mesh fencing that is zip tied to the top edges of the pots. I just drill holes in the top edges of the kitty litter pans I use for water lily pots and run small zip ties through those and the edges of the mesh.

The plastic mesh is small, some half inch, some one inch, but the plants have no problem growing up through it.

Think hair nets use elastic and wouldn't that wear out quick in the water? Not sure if they would or not.

I know the rubber bands I used in my pond to hold something, forgot what it was but anyways the rubber lost it's stretch. Don't know how long it took tho.

Sure would be great if it worked and lasted for one season. I always zip tied deer fencing to mine. This is my first summer with nothing on them as we are now fishless :( BTW, the lilies are doing well and the parrots feather and everything else is thriving....without the koi, the pond has never had this much plant coverage, ever !
